The state was known as Magadha in ancient times

The state was formed on 22 March 1912. On this occasion, the state celebrates BiharDay every year on this day. On this day in 1912, State got the status of an independent state by separating from Bengal. 111 years have been completed since the formation of Bihar. 

The British government had given independent state status to Bihar

For self-convenience during British rule, they separated Bihar from Bengal’s presidency. Britishers divided the state into five divisions too. The five divisions were Bhagalpur, Patna, Tirhut, Chhotanagpur, and Orissa. Odisha/Orissa had also been separated from the Bihar province on 1 April 1936.

The last bifurcation of Bihar took place in 2000 when Jharkhand state was formed by merging 18 southern districts of Bihar on 15 November 2000. it has geographical area of about 94.2 thousand square km is divided by the river Ganges into two parts, the north part with an area of 53.3 thousand square km and the south Bihar having an area of 40.9 thousand square km.

  6. birthplace of Aryabhatta: the person who gave “ZERO” to the world was also from this state. the Trigonometric rules were also generated from Magadha.
  7. birthplace of the first Indian president Dr. Rajendra Prasad and is also the land of prominent political figures.
  8. First Republic of the world: Vaishali became a republic in the 6th century BC. Vaishali is also the birthplace of Lord Mahavira.
  9. Jhumar is a traditional folk dance of Bihar.
  10. Songs like Fagua, Chaita, Kajri, Hindola, Chaturmasa and Barhamasa etc. are called seasonal songs. Kajri is an important song style in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Principles of Jainism

1. The doctrine revolves around five concepts: Truth; Ahimsa, Aparigraha, Asta, and Brahmacharya.

2. Salvation can be attained by purification of the soul through severe penance and practice of the Triratnas.

3. According to the neologism of Jainism, reality can be approached from different viewpoints, hence they are relative and knowledge cannot be absolute.

Brihadratha dynasty

Brihadratha was one of the earliest known kings of Magadha and his name finds mentioned in the Rigveda as well. According to the Mahabharata and the Puranas, Brihadratha was the youngest son of the Kuru king Vasu of Chedi. The famous king of this dynasty was Jarasangha.

Mauryan Empire

The Maurya period showed development in every sphere of existence of mankind, be it social, political, cultural, religious, or economic. It was a geographically extensive, powerful, and political-military empire of ancient India. Pataliputra, the capital of this empire. Chandragupta Maurya, Bindusara, and Ashoka became great rulers of this empire.

Situated at Antichak in Kahalgaon sub-division, 38 KM from Bhagalpur, ancient Vikramshila University was famous as a Centre of learning during the Pala dynasty. The university was established by the King Dharmpala.

The Nalanda Mahavihara site is in the State, in north-eastern India. It comprises the archaeological remains of a monastic and scholastic institution dating from the 3rd century BCE to the 13th century CE.

‘Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’ was born in 1908 AD in a village named Simaria in Munger district of Bihar state. Dinkar’s main poetry works are- ‘Renuka’, ‘Hunkar’, ‘Rashmirathi’, ‘Raswanti’, ‘ Neel Kusum’, ‘Kurukshetra’, ‘Urvashi’ etc. His major prose works are ‘Char Adhyay of Sanskrit’, ‘Shuddha-Poetry Search’, ‘Sahityonmukhi’, ‘Dinkar’s Diary’, ‘Poetry’s Role’, ‘Reti Ke Phool’, ‘Mitti Ki Ore’. , ‘Ardhanarishwar’ etc., in which his various thoughtful and critical essays are stored.

Vidyapati’s full name was Vidyapati Thakur. Vidyapati was born in 1350 AD in village Bisfi, district- Madhubani, mandal- Darbhanga. Vidyapati was a resident of Mithila.
