CBI dismissed false allegations against Nambi Narayanan
Nambi Narayanan was a former Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist and aerospace engineer who was arrested on espionage charges. However, all allegations against him were later proven to be false and the government had to compensate his Tamil family as well. He completed his early education at DVD School, Nagercol. Subsequently, Nambi Narayanan was a brilliant student, earned an MTech degree from Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
In 1969 Narayanan won a prestigious NASA grant, after which he went to study at Princeton University in the USA, where he was helped to understand the rocket’s technical details and its purpose.
After returning to India, Nambi Narayanan started working at ISRO. He was the one who brought liquid fuel rocket technology to India. The country’s earlier rocket technology was based on solid propellants, but in 1970 Nambi brought the liquid-propelled rocket technology to India and started this rocket technology in the country.
Used by ISRO for many of its rockets, including the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). Nambi Narayanan has worked with Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan and APJ Abdul Kalam in his career.
How a dedicated agricultural scientist got caught in a spy case.
In 1994, while at ISRO, Narayanan was falsely accused of disclosing confidential information related to India’s space program. There have been allegations that he shared information about the space program with two Maldivian nationals who sold that information about ISRO rocket engines to Pakistan. Following these allegations, the Kerala government arrested him.
Nambi was released after spending 50 days in prison and suffering police brutality.

Nambi Narayanan led a very long legal battle to prove his innocence. The charges against Nambi were dismissed by the CBI in 1996, after which the Supreme Court also acquitted him in 1998 and asked the Kerala government to compensate him for the harassment. After this case was won, there was much turmoil in the Kerala government. In April 2021, the Supreme Court also ordered a CBI probe into the conspiracy hatched against Nambi Narayanan.

After the espionage case was won, has the Kerala government paid Rs 1.3 million rupees in compensation for Nambi. In 2019, Narayanan was also awarded India’s third highest Padma Bhushan award by the government.
The Supreme Court ruled on 28 series of CBI appeals against the early Release of ex-police officers accused of being part of a conspiracy to frame ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan in a 1994 espionage case.
New Delhi : The Supreme Court has sought answers by issuing notices to police officers and IB officials in the matter in which scientist Nambi Narayanan is alleged to have been in the ISRO involved in espionage. The CBI has challenged the Kerala High Court’s decision to grant the officers early release on bail.
AM Khanwilkar Court and CT Ravikumar Court will hear the case on November 29th. In fact, the CBI has petitioned against the early release of Police Officers S. Vijayan, Thampi S. Durgadutt and RB Sreekumar (who later became DGP of Gujarat) and another former IB officer, S. Jayaprakash.
CBI has said that IB officers detained and tortured 4 scientists while they were investigating the investigation. Because of his arrest, the invention of the cryogenic rocket engine project technology was delayed by 10-20 years. If he is granted early bail, the investigation will derail.
Scientists have been unfairly implicated in this affair.

A commission was formed. In April 2021, the Justice Jain Committee submitted its report to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court later ordered the CBI to proceed against the defendants based on its preliminary investigation into the broader conspiracy.
