Eid-ul-Fitr is a remarkable Islamic festival that comes at the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a time for Muslims around the world to celebrate with their families, friends, and beloveds.
Muslims believe that the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad during Ramadan. As this is a holy month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and devote themselves to prayer. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, and Muslims celebrate it with sumptuous meals and get-togethers to mark the successful completion of the fast.
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illà l-Lāh wa-l-Lāhu akbar, Allahu akbar wa-li-l-Lāhi l-ḥamd
Eid, a time of joy and delight
When hearts are filled with love so bright
A day of celebration, a time to unite
To spread happiness and peace so right
The celebrations of Eid al-Fitr begin with the sighting of the new moon, which marks the end of Ramadan. Muslims wake up early in the morning and perform their ablutions, or ritual cleansing, before attending special congregational prayers held in mosques or open spaces.
As the first sight of the moon appears, To say Eid Mubarak, it comes to us, With laughter and joy in our hearts, Let there be goodness and celebration in every home.
After the prayers, Muslims greet each other with the traditional Arabic greeting of “Eid Mubarak” and exchange gifts, sweets, and other delicacies. The day is usually spent in visiting family and friends, feasting, and enjoying various festivities. In many Muslim-majority countries, Eid al-Fitr is celebrated as a national holiday, with schools and businesses closed for the day.
