Martyrs’ Day 

Millions of salutes to the great heroes of freedom, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev , who happily sacrificed their everything to protect the freedom and self-respect of Mother India, on Martyr’s Day. They lived for India and died for India. Their love for the nation cannot be expressed through our words.

Their stories of bravery and sacrifice are an inspiration for all patriots. our humble salutations to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru & Sukhdev. This day marks the anniversary of the execution of three Indian freedom fighters- Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru on 23rd march 1931.

On Shaheed Diwas, my humble tributes to great revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. Their bravery, sacrifice and love for motherland will continue to inspire generations.

Salute to the 3 incredible men – Bhagat Singh ji, Sukhdev ji and Rajguru ji . Every breath of their lives was for the country and I bow down to their fearlessness and sacrifice.

 

Today all the people in India keep 2 minutes of silence to remember the sacrifice of those great freedom fighters & all other martyrs who sacrifice their life for independent India. The President and the Prime Minister of India pay tribute to these great freedom fighters at their memorials in Delhi. The 23rd of march is a reminder for all Indians to remember the blood and sacrifice of all those thousands of freedom fighters who accepted death and hanging rather than slavery.

Martyrs’ Day is also seen in India on January 30. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse incompound of Birla House.

Shaheed Diwas: History

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). it was a revolutionary and famous organization among gram dal (those who believed in armed struggle against Britishers to get freedom) freedom fighters. After they hang all the other fighters and thousands of youth got inspired and started their fight against British colonial rule.
Lala Lajpat Rai arranged a peaceful protest against Sir John Simon’s visit to Lahore on October 30, 1928, and they used the slogan ‘Simon, Go Back.’

After Lala Lajpat Rai’s death, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who were young revolutionary freedom fighters, decided to assassinate James Scott. Unfortunately, they got confused and identified another senior police superintendent, John P. Saunders, and killed him instead of James Scott.

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev also decided to attack the Central Legislative Assembly and got succeeded in the prevention the passing of the Public Safety Bill and the Trade Dispute Act.On April 8, 1929, they tried to bomb the Central Legislative Assembly but they were caught. and finally, all three were sentenced to death. On 23rd March 1931, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were executed at the age of 23, 24, and 22 respectively.

  • Place-  Banga, Lyallpur district, Punjab (today Pakistan)
  • Death- 23 March 1931

Subhas Chandra Bose said that: “Bhagat Singh had become the symbol of the new awakening among the youths.”

Nehru said: “He was a clean fighter who faced his enemy in the open field … he was like a spark that became a flame in a short time and spread from one end of the country to the other dispelling the prevailing darkness everywhere”.

In 1935, Sir Horace Williamson, wrote: “His photograph was on sale in every city and township and for a time rivaled in popularity even that of Mr. Gandhi himself”.
