Swami Vivekanand: The man who taught spirituality to West, 12th January

After the world-famous speech of Chicago, World Parliament of Religions on 11 September 1893, Swami Vivekanand started with “sisters and brothers of America” which aroused thousands of applause in hall. The New York Herald wrote, “Vivekananda is undoubtedly the greatest figure in the Parliament of Religions. After hearing him we feel how foolish it is to send missionaries to this learned nation”.

Vivekananda emphasized on the following points in World Parliament of Religions on 11 September 1893:

  • Everyone’s God is the same, no matter where he lives in the world. Neither God is a quarter, nor a half.
  • He emphasized on people to be brave, courageous, cultured and kind.
  • He said that all people should follow their own religion, and while remaining in their own religion, they should also imbibe the goodness of other religions. He opposed the religious conversion.

Quotes of Swami Vivekananda:

Purity, patience, and perseverance are the three essentials to success and above all, love

All power is within you. You can do anything and everything. Believe in that. Do not believe that you are weak; do not believe that you are half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays. Stand up and express the divinity within you.

Stand up, be bold, and take the blame on your own shoulders. Do not go about throwing mud at others; for all the faults you suffer from, you are the sole and only cause.

Take risks in your life, If you win, you can lead! If you lose, you can guide!

ARISE AWAKE AND DO NOT STOP TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED

Mahasamadhi:

Swami Vivekananda left this world only at the age of 39. According to his disciples, Swamiji had already told that he would not live beyond 40 years. On that day Swami ji wakes up in the morning like every day, worships God and does yoga, after that he goes out for a walk. After coming back, he gives the knowledge of Vedas, Sanskrit and spirituality to the disciples. As soon as evening comes, he goes to his room at 7 o’clock and orders no one to disturb him. In 10 minutes after 9 pm, the news of his death spread throughout the Math.

According to the monastics, Swami ji had given up his body as per his wish and took Mahasamadhi, but medical science rejects this and said that he died from brain haemorrhage.

No one can be a Karmayogi like Swami ji, only a great Karmayogi can do the kind of work he did. Must apply the best knowledge given by him and the inspirational thoughts of Swami Vivekananda in your life.
