Delhi University to launch new course on Hindu studies: Will let students pursue postgraduate & PhD from 2024. Department also approved, will teach Hindu scriptures and teachings.

Under the new centre, DU will initially introduce a postgraduate (PG) programme in Hindu Studies for the 2023-24 academic session, an official said. This course aims to involve all the stakeholders, including the enrolled students of the programme, to “think critically and evolve a Bharat-centric perspective beyond theoretical explanation”, he added.

Delhi University to launch new course on Hindu studies: The official also pointed out that the new course will ensure diversification of knowledge system in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Doctoral, certificate courses, diplomas and other programmes in Hindu Studies will be launched later depending upon the operational feasibility of the centre, he said.

According to the source, DU is also preparing to introduce PG programmes that would include Hindu Studies as a minor course in addition to the major programmes in computer science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, graphic design and animation, management, and commerce.

According to the University’s Faculty of Arts, a Centre for Hindu Studies will be established that will provide a Master’s Programme in Hindu Studies. Numerous important changes in the country’s higher education system made it necessary for the University of Delhi to take such a step, according to the official.

The Centre for Hindu Studies (CHS) will open its doors in Delhi University in 2023–2024. Beginning with the following academic year, DU will launch a postgraduate and doctoral curriculum under the new centre. The new course will include subjects like Hindu scriptures, the Mahabharat, the Ramayan, the history of Hinduism, and the teachings of Indian sages.

The CHS will be a part of the Faculty of Arts, which will make it easier to design the curriculum, carry out the academic courses, and enrol students in the centre.

DU is now only the second central institution, after Banaras Hindu university, to offer a programme in this area as a result of this decision. This statement follows the formation of a 17-member committee by DU to investigate the establishment of a dedicated institution for the study of Hindu history.

According to the National Education Policy 2020, the new course will ensure the diversification of the knowledge system, according to a DU official.
