It all began in 1986 when the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the Indian government to declare February 28th as National Science Day. The government agreed, and in 1986, it officially became National Science Day. The first celebration took place on February 28, 1987, marking the start of an annual celebration of India’s scientific progress.
