Gautam Adani, an Indian businessman and politician, is the chairman and managing director of the Adani group.
He was born in Mumbai in 1952. He studied at La Martiniere College, Pune. He started his career in the family business, now known as the Adani Group. He has been involved with several business ventures and has diversified into manufacturing cement and steel products, power generation, real estate development and mining.
Adani is a member of the governing council of Bhartiya Mahila Bank and is a member of the board of directors at several companies including Essar Steel, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), Adani Power India Limited (APL) and Adani Power Limited (APL).
Gautam Adani is a business tycoon and the chairman of the Adani Group. He was born on 9th October 1957 in a small village called Khed in Gujarat, India. He went to school in Vadodara and studied at DAV College, Vadodara.
In 1977, he joined his father’s business by buying a share in the family business of exporting aluminum products from India to Europe. The company was called “Mittal Aluminium Limited”.
In 1988, he became a director of the company but left it in 1990 to start his own company called “Gautam Adani Enterprises”. The company would later be renamed as “Adani Enterprises Limited” after his older brother Prakash Adani died.
In 1993, Gautam entered into coal mining with the help of some other businessmen who wanted to invest in this sector. They formed the Adani Power Ltd which is now one of India’s largest power producers with total capacity of 12000 MWs across four states – Maharashtra (1200 MW), Rajasthan (3000 MW), Gujarat (5000 MW) and Telangana (500 MW).
