Noida to get world’s longest and India’s first Pod taxi circuit.

Noida to get world’s longest and India’s first Pod taxi circuit: UP govt gives nod, global tenders to be issued soon. It’ll wrap around the city till film city and reach the Jewar International airport.
The Jewar airport to Film City distance, which is 14.6 kilometers, will be covered by India’s first pod taxi initiative, which has received approval from the Yamuna Authority. After receiving the Uttar Pradesh government’s consent, construction on the project, which is projected to cost roughly 810 crores, will start.

According to YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh, the international tenders for the pod taxi project should be expected within a week. Within a week, a concessionaire would be chosen, he added.
According to Singh, who said that all land acquisition for the project has been completed, “there are only about five to six companies that have expertise in developing pod taxi systems, and so far, all of them have expressed interest in this project.”
The Yamuna Authority received the operating report of the first pod taxis from three different countries on Wednesday from the Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Limited.
The officials overseeing this project claim that pod taxis have already begun operating in 18 different nations. Five nations now host pod taxi in operation. The officials used the 2011–12 study when they said that while the initiative in Abu Dhabi is losing money, London’s pod taxis are operating economically.

37,000 passengers a day are anticipated to be able to ride in the first pod taxis. While some people are enthusiastic and supportive of the project, others believe that it is a waste of public dollars.
The Noida International Airport or the Jewar Airport is currently under construction. Not only is it Asia’s largest airport, but also the fourth largest airport in the world. As the construction is underway in full swing, there are plans to set up a service named ‘pod taxi’ or Driverless personal rapid transport (PRT), to facilitate connectivity between the Jewar airport and Film City in Noida.

Noida to get world’s longest and India’s first Pod taxi circuit: green mode of transportation, zero carbon footprints.

Not only is the first pod taxi a modern-day initiative, but also eco-friendly as it leaves zero carbon footprints. The driverless mode of transport is cost-effective, pro-environmental and convenient, BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh had said in 2021.
In countries where pod taxis are functional, they are primarily run on electricity or hydrogen engines. In 2017, the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that the Rs 800 crore project will be implemented under NHAI.
Shivankit Sharma, a Transport Expert and owner of the KK Sahib bus service, spoke to India Today about the advantages and disadvantages of the pod taxi service. He lauded the efforts to make the service a reality, but also said that some basic facilities need to be put in place in order to make pod taxis a success.
“If basic requirements like road connectivity and electricity are fixed in Greater Noida first, it will be easier to commute through. We should go step by step. If basic facilities are absent, how will pod taxis be helpful?” he asked.
However, he also noted that pod taxis will consume less electricity than the metro. He said that areas that pod taxis will cross through, will have to be developed first.
COUNTRIES WHERE POD TAXIS ARE IN USE
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) CEO Arun Vir Singh said that the authority held a meeting with the officials from Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporate Limited. They were asked to study the pod taxi services in countries like Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
