Biography of Guru Gobind Singh:

  • Born: 1666, Patna Sahib, Bihar
  • Death: 7th October, 1708
  • Reason for death: assassination

Marriages:

Guru Gobind Singh ji had three marriages in his lifetime, in which the first marriage was at the age of 10 years. His second marriage took place at the age of 17 on April 4, 1684 in Anandpur with Mata Sundari.

Third marriage At the age of 33, he married Mata Sahib Devan. He had no children, but had an influential role in Sikhism. She was declared as the mother of the Khalsa.

Journey towards Sikh Guru:

Guru gobind singh : An intellectual child of just 9 years become the 10th guru of Sikh after execution of his father by Aurangzeb. He started the tradition of putting Singh in front of the name of the Sikhs, which is still being followed by the people of Sikh religion.

Words fall short for Guru Gobind Singh.He was the founder of Khalsa panth which follows the following tradition:-

  • Kangha: comb made up of wood.
  • Kara: an bracelet of iron or steel worn on the wrist.
  • Kesh: uncut hair.
  • Kirpan: a sword.
  • Kacchera : short breeches.

History of Panch Pyare :

Guru govind singh occassionally organised meetings for discussion. Once in such meeting during Baishakhi in 1699 at Anandpur, he asked for volunteer among his followers for sacrificing his head for mankind and brothers. Dayaram, follower of Guru Govind Singh, immediately agreed to do it. They went in a hut and Guru Govind Singh came out alone with a bloody sword.

He demanded the same from rest followers, frequently such 5 volenteer came one by one and Guru Govind Singh repeated the same process with them. After 5th one, he came out of hut with all 5 volenteer anlong with headless goats.Those 5 Sikhs were called as Panch Pyare.

Guru Gobind Singh, A Warrior and poet:

He wrote Sikh rules and wrote various military poetry and music. The compilation of the works of Guru Gobind Singh is known as Dasam Granth. He fought 13 wars for religion and the poor protection and worn all the wars. He was also known by many nicknames like Kalgidhar, Dashmesh, Barnwal. Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated every year in honor of his sacrifice.

Guru govind Singh were expert in various languages such as Sanskrit, Punjabi, Persian and Arabic languages and wrote the following:

  • Bachitra Natak

  • Chandi Charitra
