Ex Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passed away: The death of the former Kerala Chief Minister was announced by his son, Chandy Oommen, in a Facebook post.

The senior Congress leader, who was undergoing cancer treatment, passed away early on July 18 in a hospital in Bengaluru.

Ex Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passed away: Chandy, a long-serving lawmaker from the Puthupally constituency in the Kottayam district and a hugely well-liked public figure, served as Kerala’s chief minister twice.
From August 31, 2004, to May 12, 2006, and from May 18, 2011, to May 20, 2016, he served as the minister in Kerala for the United Democratic Front (UDF), which is run by the Congress.
Chandy had a long career in politics. He held the position of Minister of Labour in the K. Karunakaran Ministry in 1977 and the A.K. Antony Ministry in the subsequent cabinet. From December 1981 to March 1982, he served as the Home Minister in the K. Karunakaran administration. In the 1991 UDF ministry, he also handled the Finance position.
Ex Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passed away: Born to Karottu Vallakalil K.V. Chandy and Baby Chandy on October 30, 1943, Chandy became active in politics through the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Youth Congress. He became State general secretary of the KSU in 1965 and its State in 1967.
He did his schooling at the St. George High School, Kottayam. Chandy is also an alumnus of the CMS College, Kottayam, SB College Changanassery, and the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He became president of the Youth Congress in 1970, and was also active in the INTUC, the Congress-backed trade union. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1970.
Ex Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passed away: He served as the UDF’s convener from 1982 to 1986 again from 2001 to 2004. Following A.K. Antony’s departure as Chief Minister in 2004, Chandy was appointed to the position. In 2011, he was elected CM a second time. He previously served as opposition leader from 2006 to 2011.

Ex Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passed away: Chandy, a shrewd politician, had played a significant role in the inner-party ‘group’ manoeuvres inside the state branch of the Congress. He was also very well liked by the general populace. While serving as Chief Minister, he created the “Mass Contact” programme to address the issues that the general public was experiencing.
He currently served as the AICC’s general secretary.
Chandy leaves behind his wife Mariamma Oommen, as well as their three children, Achu, Maria, and Chandy.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan condoled the death.
