The choice was made at a time when Pakistan was threatening to boycott the World Cup after India announced it will not visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry emphasized in a press release that politics and sports should not be intertwined.
“Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023,” the foreign ministry said in a release.
