On November 15, 2022, the world population reached 8 billion people and according to the World Population Prospects 2022 released today on World Population Day, India is expected to overtake China as the world’s most populous country by 2023
As per the United Nations’ ‘World Population Prospects 2022’ report, India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023. It also suggests that the global population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050.

World Population Prospects 2022 also notes that fertility has declined significantly in many countries in recent decades. Today, two-thirds of the world’s population live in a country or territory where lifetime fertility is less than 2.1 births per woman, which is about the required level. for long-term zero growth for a population with low mortality. and in some cases high emigration rates.
More than half of the projected increase in world population by 2050 will be concentrated in eight countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and the United Republic of Tanzania. Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to contribute more than half of the projected increase by 2050.

As per the report, India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023.The populations of 61 countries are projected to decrease by one per cent or more between 2022 and 2050, due to low levels of fertility and, in some cases, elevated rates of emigration, Other groups have, however, calculated different figures.
