On December 12, 2018, Shaktikanta Das (a retired IAS officer), a former secretary in the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Revenue and Department of Economic Affairs, took over as the Reserve Bank of India’s 25th governor. He served as an Indian G20 Sherpa and a member of the 15th Finance Commission before taking the helm of the RBI.
Throughout his 40-year career, Das has gained extensive insight in several facets of governance. In the areas of finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure, Das has held significant roles in the Central and State Governments.
The RBI governor is currently in London. On Tuesday, he participated in and addressed the opening plenary session of summer meetings organised by Central Banking, London, UK.
