New Tensions Rises Among Turkey and Sweden Over Islam

Turkey and Sweden Recently crossed paths in a not-good manner. This interaction was certainly not good for both countries and will remain in the future.

Protest in Turkey Against Sewden

A politician named Rasmus Paludan disrespects the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy. The man burned Holy Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy in order to disrespect Islam.

The man named Rasmus Paludan is a very active politician in Sweden and it is not the first time when he tries to disrespect Islam.

Sweden’s Government has blocked the entry of Rasmus Paludan from many states of Sweden but because Sweden wants to join NATO they have to unwillingly allow Rasmus Paludan to enter their country.

After this burning incident the people in Turkey started protesting against Sweden and trying to build pressure on the Turkish government.

Why Turkey is Important for Sweden?

On the map, Sweden is very close to Russia and this always threatens the peace of Sweden since Sweden is one of the top most peaceful countries in the world.

In order to protect itself from the threat of Russia, Sweden wants to join NATO. But now after this incident, the Turkish people seem to be very angry and they are putting pressure on their leader to stop Sewden from becoming a part of NATO.

The Turkish Prime Minister has said on record that they will stop Sweden’s entry into NATO at any cost. If Turkey somehow fails to do it then the Turkish people will most probably start protesting against its current government and dethrone it. Turkey’s Prime Minister understand this well and he will try to do anything to save his government.

Estonia a country in the east has openly supported the Ukrainians in the ongoing war and that’s why this country managed to get the attention of Russia. Russia has directly stated that all the political relation between Estonia and Russia has officially ended, this is considered as a direct threat to Estonia. The only reason why Estonia is still safe is that it is a NATO member.

Impact of this Decision on Turkey

It seems that Turkey has already made up its mind to prevent Sweden to become a part of NATO. But this decision might backfire on Turkey since many countries in NATO are not happy with Turkey.

Culturally and historically Sweden is much more important to the west as compared to Turkey so, hypothetically if Russia becomes aggressive then the NATO members might decide to save Sweden in the cost of Turkey’s NATO membership.

If Turkey losses its NATO membership then it will be one of the biggest Geopolitical events in history. The NATO shield is always protecting Turkey from many threats and losing it will be a big loss for the country.
