TMC panchayat poll candidate beaten to death in Bengal’s Malda, 1 held. Mustafa Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate for the panchayat polls was beaten to death by unknown miscreants while returning home in Kaliachak in West Bengal’s Malda district on Saturday. Police detained a 48-year-old accused in connection with the incident.

From Ankit Raj On Sunday, some unidentified thugs attacked and killed a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate for the impending panchayat elections in West Bengal’s Malda district. The deceased’s family claims that local Congress representatives killed him.
In the Malda district’s Kaliachak, the incident took place. A 48-year-old suspect, Abdul Mannan, was held after an initial inquiry, and more research into the case is now being done, according to Malda police.

The deceased, Mustafa Sheikh, was heading back home when he was attacked by the miscreants. He was declared brought dead when he was taken to a local hospital.

“The claim made against us is unfounded. The TMC’s internal strife is to blame for the murder. We have nothing to do with it, a leader of the Congress told the news organisation PTI.

The fresh incident comes days after TMC and Indian Secular Front (ISF) workers clashed with each other during the nomination filing process in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district. Two died in connection with the violence in Bhangar, while a CPI-M worker was killed in Chopra in North Dinajpur district.

Widespread violence over the filing of nominations for the July 8 three-tier panchayat polls has left at least six people dead and several injured in various parts of the state.
